Kofi Setordji was born in Accra in 1957. He began his career as a graphic artist and in the nineties went on to become a full-time sculptor under the guidance of the renowned Ghanaian artist, Saka-Acquaye. In 1990, he received the 'Sculptor of the Year' award. Together with the painter, Wisdom Kudowor, he founded the Society for Contemporary Art in Ghana. The members of the SOCA are involved in discussions on art, and in the organisation of symposiums. Setordji is currently working on his 'Art House'. At his home, situated in a splendid country setting on the outskirts of Accra, Kofi is constructing accommodation for visiting artists from all over the world, who can come and work in his studio for a few months at a time. Kofi Setordji works in wood, metal, bronze, stone, terracotta and paint.

Kofi has had exhibitions in various African countries, in Europe and in the United States. In Ghana, he has been awarded various commissions from the government for the creation of wall reliefs, including for the museum belonging to the mausoleum of Ghana's first president, Kwame Nkrumah. Together with the French artist Di Rosa, he created the only public modern artwork in the city.

Parts of the genocide-monument have been exhibited in the Ivory Coast, Senegal and France. Plans have also been made for a tour of Germany.
